Zendaya fired a former publicist over a racially-insensitive mark

Zendaya fired a former publicist over a racially-insensitive mark she made during a photoshoot.

The star was unhappy about the way her hair and makeup looked for the shoot and she complained about it to her publicist, who had a shocking response.
"My publicist told me, 'You should just be happy with it - they haven't had a black girl on the cover since forever,' she tells Cosmopolitan magazine. "She's no longer my publicist."
The 19-year-old has been vocal about diversity issues in Hollywood. In February, 2015, Zendaya verbally sparred with Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic after she joked the teen looked like she smelled of "patchouli... maybe weed" while commenting on the hippie-style dreadlocks the actress and singer debuted on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Coleman fired back, branding the remarks "offensive" and "disrespectful," and Rancic subsequently apologised.
Zendaya previously stated it was important to take a stand over the comments to show fans they needed to face their tormentors and challenge anyone making derogatory remarks about women.
The strength she gained from he stand-off with Rancic - and the positive feedback she received - helped her make the decision to return to the Disney Channel to star in and co-produce hit new show K.C. Undercover.
"The only way I was going to come back to the Disney Channel was if I was in a position of more power," she says. "One thing that is really important to me is diversity on the channel. It's hard as a young person of a different ethnicity or background to look at the TV and not see anyone who looks like you. Representation is very important."
In the new Cosmopolitan interview, Zendaya also opens up about her dating life after she was linked to American football star Odell Beckham, Jr. - but she insists they are just friends.

"We went to some events together, because we're friends," she previously told 92.3 AMP Radio. "We were with a group, we were with multiple people. I was with my stylist."

Calvin Harris releases statement after his split from Taylor Swift

'What remains is a huge amount of love and respect': Calvin Harris releases statement after his split from Taylor Swift

The couple called it quits after 15 months together earlier this week

CALVIN Harris has released a statement following his split from Taylor Swift.

The news broke this week that the couple had ended their 15-month romance amid rumours he was "jealous" of her success.

Taking to Twitter, the hitmaker wrote: "The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect."

While it was believed the pair had split without any drama, a source close to Taylor, 26, has told People magazine that Calvin, 32, ended things with the Shake it Off singer because he was "intimidated" by her success.

A source said: "[Harris] said on multiple occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend any events where she was being honored, or any award shows unless he was nominated."

However, the pair are both extremely successful in their own rights with Taylor banking a reported £69million ($100million) last year and Calvin topping the highest-paid DJs in the world list last year after pulling in £45million ($66million).

Meanwhile, a source told The Sun that the Scottish DJ is devastated over the split.

The insider said: "It was a case of them naturally going their separate ways.

"Obviously it's devastating for them because they had planned a future together.

"But there is nothing sinister behind it. There's certainly no other relationship going on from either side."

a storybook romance in superhero season-‘Me Before You’

As Emilia Clarke remembers it, she had a grenade launcher in her hand when her agent called about “Me Before You .”

To be fair, she was on the set of “Terminator Genisys” - not the most likely of places to curl up with a good tearjerker, but the timing was actually perfect. Clarke had gone from obscurity to starring as the conqueror Daenerys Targaryen (a.k.a. the “Mother of Dragons”) in “Game of Thrones” before being cast as Sarah Connor in the failed “Terminator” reboot, so she was in the mood for something different.

“I read it in between takes in like two days,” Clarke said of Jojo Moyes’ bestselling novel before a recent Los Angeles fan screening of the film, which opens Friday. “I was like, ‘hush now, Arnold (Schwarzenegger). I’m just going to go over here and cry like a little girl into my grenade launcher.’ I just felt so connected with Lou it was ridiculous. I understood who she was. It just felt like someone had got me down. And she’s got my surname!”

Moyes, who adapted her novel for the screen, raised an eyebrow when director Thea Sharrock mentioned that she was interested in the actress for the role of Lou Clark, knowing her only from “Game of Thrones.” In the book, Lou is an ordinary, happy-go-lucky, small-town girl whose life gets upended when she takes a sorely needed job working for a handsome, deeply depressed man, Will, who was recently paralyzed. In other words, Lou is “a million miles away from Khaleesi,” Sharrock said.

But Sharrock, a noted English theater director making her feature debut with “Me Before You,” had spotted something in Clarke - one of some 300 actresses she’d seen for the role - and her sparkling chemistry test with Sam Claflin solidified it.

Claflin and Clarke had a little bit of an advantage on this front. The two actors had met years before on a photo shoot when both were recent drama school grads who’d just scored their first big roles. They’d since been called in for a number of chemistry reads over the years, usually making sure to catch up over a beer after, but for various reasons, it hadn’t yet worked out. Perhaps it was worth the false starts, though - one of those would-be projects was “Jack the Giant Killer.”

“It was absolutely clear the second they were together that there was an instant respect and trust between them that was palpable. They just liked each other,” Sharrock said. “When I showed (Jojo) the tape of her and Sam she was in absolute floods of tears. That was the moment when she knew it was going to be OK.”

And then they were off in bringing this devastating and uplifting love story to the big screen with unusually supportive partners behind them in New Line and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. Warner Bros. even slotted the classic romance for a prime summer release, squashed between the sequels, superheroes, and ninja turtles.

“They knew what they had and they knew it was different from what everyone else was doing,” Sharrock said. “You have to really give them credit for believing in the story to such an extent that they stuck with it absolutely all the way. And they let me cast who I wanted to cast rather than the most famous people in the world.”

Sharrock wanted the film to feel like one huge breath.

“There’s a modern day Merchant Ivory quality to this. I wanted for it to look very smooth and accessible, but also to have almost a fairy tale quality. I mean, there’s a castle in the heart of this!” she said, referring to Will’s family’s expansive English estate.

She and her two leads made time for a few months of rehearsals prior to shooting to get the story and characters just right.

“I wanted to start out somewhere almost where you could feel the claustrophobia of her life or him in his annex to the journey of getting him outside and beyond that,” Sharrock said.

For Claflin, there was also the added challenge of having to play believable quadriplegic.

“I was constantly reminding myself not to move, not to comfort her with my body,” Claflin said. “This job had no end to its challenges for me. It was very physically demanding. I was always manipulating my body and contracting my neck muscles and shoulder muscles to try to make him look slimmer and a little more ill, and then at the same time holding my fingers in a specific way that I hope was doing the disability justice.”

Remembering Marilyn Monroe on her 90th birthday

Marilyn Monroe, one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, would have celebrated her 90th birthday on June 1, 2016.

Revisit her life in pictures: glamour shots, stills from her iconic movies, moments with her famous beaus and more.

Diamond Blancpain Watch Is Up for Auction at $80,000 - "Marilyn Monroe’s"

Happy Birthday, Marilyn Monroe.
Starting on Wednesday, June 1, which would have been the pin-up actress's 90th birthday, a worldwide tour will commence of hitherto-unrevealed items once coveted by the blonde bombshell—the highest-valued item of which is a Blancpain cocktail watch expected to fetch from $80,000 to $120,000.
The vintage timepiece and its bracelet feature 71 round diamonds and two marquise diamonds. It comes from the estate of Lee Strasberg, the famous acting coach who was Monroe’s mentor; he and his wife, Paula, were close with the actress and received the watch, among a trove of collectibles, in her will. Strasberg died in 1982.

According to Julien’s Auctions, the timepiece has never been on the auction block. Many of the items on offer, in fact, are preserved exactly as they were when Monroe died of a drug overdose in 1962 at age 36.

“The amazing thing about these items is they’ve never been seen before in public since Marilyn passed in 1962,” said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles, which is overseeing the auction, scheduled for Nov. 19-20 in Hollywood.

This auction of more than 500 lots will include everything from eight Philip Morris cigarettes to a used Revlon lipstick in the vibrant red shade "Bachelor's Carnation” and a jewelry case owned by a former husband of Monroe's, baseball great Joe DiMaggio. It represents the largest collection of Marilyn Monroe artifacts ever offered, and the auction house hopes it will bring in from $2 million to $4 million.
Blancpain Cocktail Watches

From 1930 on, Blancpain buoyed the rise in popularity of ladies’ watches by presenting the first self-winding, automatic wristwatch for women. Though not as recognized for its ladies' timepieces from the Art Deco era as, say, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, or Tiffany & Co., Monroe’s timepiece looks to date from that period, when platinum and diamond watches emphasizing beauty before function were all the rage.

Ahead of the auction, key pieces from the Monroe collection will be exhibited aboard the Queen Mary 2 ocean liner set to sail from New York to Southampton, England. The items will also be exhibited in London and Los Angeles.

Kristen Bell pens essay on her struggle with depression and anxiety-‘I felt worthless’

Kristen Bell may seem like one of the most cheerful actresses in Hollywood, but, as she chronicles in a new essay for Motto, that doesn’t change the fact that she’s been living with anxiety and depression since she was a teenager. In fact, it’s all part of the package for some people.

In the essay, Bell reveals that she developed depression in college but stayed silent about it for several years: “I didn’t speak publicly about my struggles with mental health for the first 15 years of my career. But now I’m at a point where I don’t believe anything should be taboo. So here I am, talking to you about what I’ve experienced.”

While studying at New York University, Bell writes, “I felt plagued with a negative attitude and a sense that I was permanently in the shade. … I’m normally such a bubbly, positive person, and all of a sudden I stopped feeling like myself.”

“Depression is not sadness,” she clarifies. “It’s not having a bad day and needing a hug. It gave me a complete and utter sense of isolation and loneliness. Its debilitation was all-consuming, and it shut down my mental circuit board. I felt worthless, like I had nothing to offer, like I was a failure.”

Thanks to her mother’s openness towards mental illness, Bell was able to seek help, something she hopes can be possible for everyone: “It’s important for me to be candid about this so people in a similar situation can realize that they are not worthless and that they do have something to offer.

Bell notes that the “extreme stigma” surrounding mental health makes it particularly difficult for people to seek help. “20 per cent of American adults face some form of mental illness in their lifetime. So why aren’t we talking about it?”

She goes on to suggest that mental health evaluations should be as routine as dentist appointments, adding, “It’s a knee-jerk reaction to judge people when they’re vulnerable. But there’s nothing weak about struggling with mental illness. You’re just having a harder time living in your brain than other people. And I don’t want you to feel alone.”
